Data we process
- Vocabulary cards, training progress, review state, and app settings are stored on your device by default.
- When you look up a word online, the query word and related sentence context are sent over HTTPS to the Engrowth lookup service to return meanings and teaching content.
- Images you choose for study are processed with on-device text recognition. The current version does not upload original photos for OCR.
- Optional spoken practice requests microphone and speech recognition permission. Speech is processed by your device's system speech recognition service, which may use Apple's servers depending on device and service availability. Engrowth does not save audio recordings or send them to the Engrowth server. Recognized text is used for practice feedback; learning results may be stored with your local progress. You can deny or revoke these permissions and use text-based practice instead. Pronunciation playback does not require microphone access.
- If you enable cloud restore: Sign in with Apple provides an account identifier (and optionally a private relay email). We store a passphrase-encrypted learning backup ciphertext on Engrowth servers. We do not hold your passphrase and cannot read backup plaintext. Cloud backups do not include camera source photos.
- You may optionally submit content feedback (for example, a meaning-issue category) to improve dictionary quality—not for advertising.
- Servers may keep security logs needed to operate the service (time, network address, status codes). These are not used for ads or cross-app tracking.
Purpose & sharing
We process data only to provide lookup, training, cloud restore, troubleshooting, abuse prevention, and content quality improvement. Engrowth does not sell personal data and does not run ads based on personal data. Limited sharing occurs only when needed for infrastructure, legal obligations, or to protect users and the service. Sign in with Apple authentication is handled by Apple under Apple’s terms.
Retention, deletion & security
- Local data can be removed by uninstalling the app (and similar device controls).
- Cloud accounts and cloud backups can be deleted in the app; see Account deletion.
- You may also email us to request access or deletion of server data reasonably linked to your request.
- We use HTTPS, access controls, and least privilege. No system can guarantee absolute security.
Children & policy updates
Engrowth is used by learners of different ages. We do not target children with advertising and do not require children to post public profiles. If our practices change in a material way, we will update this page.
